Good and Faithful Servant-A Portrait of Adrian P. Rogers and Steve Gaines
Most of what I know about the Bible, I learned from Adrian Rogers, Pastor Emeritus, Bellevue Baptist Church. Although I was not a Bellevue member, I often visited the church to hear Dr. Rogers preach. I also often listened to his messages on the radio. My Bible became filled with notes I took as I listened and learned. I always considered Dr. Rogers my teacher, more than my pastor. When I witnessed him wash the feet of Steve Gaines as Dr. Gaines was coming to fill the pulpit in Dr. Roger’s retirement, I was amazed at Dr. Roger’s character. This great man of God bowing before his congregation to wash the feet of another, deeply touched my heart. I wrote to Dr. Rogers to ask him if I could paint this portrait. I did not know at the time that Dr. Rogers was in critical health. To my surprise he wrote me back immediately. Two weeks later Dr. Rogers passed away. It was my great honor to paint this portrait and to include Jesus lovingly looking on from the choir, the One that Adrian Rogers had given his life to and the One who Dr. Roger’s had brought so many to know during his lifetime.
A copy of the letter I received from Dr. Roger’s written on his priceless personal stationery will be included with the purchase of this painting.
